Chemex

Time: Approx. 4 minutes, it’s a fast way to get your caffeine fix.

Resulting Brew:

Chemex filters are 30% thicker than filters used by other drippers, you will get a richer tasting cup of coffee.

Skill level required:

The Chemex method can be difficult, but if you're a true coffee fiend practice makes perfect!

Best suited for you if:

You fancy the pour-over coffee movement & love bringing people together brewing 3-4 cups at a time.

Instructions:

Step 1: Position and Rinse Filter

Set the folded Chemex filter in the top part of the glass pot. Run hot water through the filter & allow it to drain completely, then discard the water.

Step 2: Add Coffee

Add 10 grams of coffee per 6 oz. of water. Adjust proportions for a stronger or weaker brew.

Step 3: Moisten the Grounds

In a swirling motion, pour a small amount of hot water over the grounds until they are evenly saturated & swell slightly.

Step 4: First Pour

Allow the grounds to bloom for 30 seconds, then pour in more water in the same fashion. Raise the water level to a 1/2 inch below the rim of the filter.

Step 5: Second Pour

When you see 3/4 inch of dry coffee at the top of the filter, slowly pour in the rest of the water.

Step 6: Coffee is Served

Wait for a minute or two to make sure that brewing is complete, then remove the filter and pour your coffee.

Cold Brew

Time: 10-24 hours. Patience is a virtue.

Resulting Brew:

A strong & intense flavored brew, without any form of bitterness. The full flavors of the coffee bean will be on display. Best of all, it has a super smooth aftertaste.

Skill level required:

Simple and easy to do at home.

Best suited for you if:

You live somewhere hot, also for the person who experiences a sharp peak and crash from standard coffee. Cold brew often gives you the caffeine high without the crash.

*Summer tip - fill your ice trays with cold brew & pop into your morning smoothie for a delicious caffeine kick!

Instructions:

Step 1: Steep

Place coffee grounds in a 2-quart pitcher, add the water & stir to combine. Cover with plastic wrap and let steep at room temperature for at least 10 h and up to 24h.

Step 2: Strain

Line a fine-mesh strainer with a standard coffee filter and fit it over a medium bowl. Working in batches slowly pour the coffee into the filter until all of the liquid has passed through the strainer. Stop when you reach the solids at the bottom of the pitcher. Discard the grounds.

Step 3: Serve!

Transfer strained coffee into pitcher. Cover and refrigerate until completely chilled, & enjoy!
